Global Society for Anti-Corruption Nigeria, Seminar against electronic fraud
“ Global society for anti-corruption is a non governmental and non political organisation set up for the sole purpose of educating the public on electronic fraud and it’s related vices. Also we help victims of electronic fraud to recover whatever they have lost through the support of Government agencies and other relevant bodies in the fight against corruption.
" Electronic fraud is online vices going on illegally. It affects our youths because some of them are involved in it, falling victim and ending up in jail. So we want to educate them on better and sustainable means to make money legally online, instead of engaging in fraudulent practices online. Our organisation uniqueness is that we want to promote the good image of Nigeria around the world. We want to equally empower the youths and mentor them. We will not just end the programme here. We will still follow up and direct them accordingly”.
While speaking on the benefits of offering legitimate online services, A strategic consultant to Global society for anti corruption Mr Segun Adedokun explained that electronic fraudsters manipulate their victims due to ignorance.
“ Our passion is to spread entrepreneurial information and mentor people on what to do. Electronic fraud is basically some individuals playing on other people’s ignorance. E- fraudsters look for reputable websites to clone it. Once they clone it, to the uninformed person it looks like real bank or E-commerce store website. The fraudster will make sure you don’t know, however there are things on the original website that is not on the fake website. So if you want to prevent fraud search for the name of the organisation on Google for authenticity. Look at the top left corner, if you want to buy online only deal with website that has HTTPS. That’s because they have security from their host to make sure their site is secure. Also visit the original website and observe their payment system. Original sites use various recognised and reliable banks and payment platforms . Fraudsters connect you back to themselves. If you receive SMS about fraud from a personal number. Don’t bother to respond. Remember corporate organisation and authentic E- commerce websites will not send you messages from private numbers.
" I urge youths to shun electronic fraud because it will deny you peace of mind plus risk of jail. The easiest way to make money is to offer genuine service. Youths should channel their passion, dedication and energy away from scam to starting online business that will last and stand the test of time. So GSAC is about enlightening people that there is a better way of making a living online. And dont make money your immediate motivation. Chase a big picture, Pursue your dream with patience, commitment, hardwork and you will succeed. Your motivation should be service to humanity. Serve people and get your reward”.
In his contribution another strategic consultant to Global society for anti-corruption Mr Noel logo described electronic fraud as obstacle destroying our image and denying us the chance to reap the rewards of the internet.
“ We want to promote Nigeria image globally by starting from home to educate the people on other things they can do on the internet that can give them more money and prestige and bring good image for the country. Electronic fraud is of grave concern to the country. Even though a few Nigerians commit the vice. The global community view most Nigerians as corrupt thus denying us online business opportunities. But with this sensitisation we want Nigerians to show they can make good money online through legitimate means and change Nigeria's image and perspective.
" One of the ways of making money online is E-commerce. It’s like a real business in a virtual world. You can sell a product, service or sell anything and make reasonable income as long as their is market demand. Discover what people are willing to buy and supply, their are different platforms available to do that”.
