Labour Union honours Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja

Nigeria Labour union from the south east honoured the Executive Chairman of Igbo Eze North LGA Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja in a solidarity visit at the council headquarters on 23/8/2018.

While speaking The Chairman Igbo Eze North LGA Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja said the welfare of workers is essential for peace and security in the land.

“ I thank Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for being a labour friendly Governor. He gave opportunity to labour person like me to participate in governance as Chairman of local government. The Governor views labour leaders as partners of development. With his support we have built roads, hospitals, health centres and courts.  

"Gov. Ugwuanyi is committed to welfare of workers by paying salary. So I urge the workers to ensure He returns back to Government house”. 

In his contribution The President National union of local government employees Enugu state Comrade Kenneth Ugwueze captured the hopes of workers

 “ We are happy to honour our own.       Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja. We thank Igbo Eze North LGA for identifying with labour in the leadership of the council. We appreciate the Chairman of the council for representing us well. During 2017 assessment of local government in Enugu state. Igbo Eze North came first in that regard and that was good representation by our Chairman for fulfilling the promises he made to Igbo Eze North LGA. We thank the Governor for making it possible and wiping the tears in the eyes of local government employees".

Meanwhile in his goodwill message            The Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress   Comrade Virginus Nwobodo explained the reason for the occassion

 “ This is solidarity visit to honour       Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja. We are here to give honour to whom it is due and prove there is dignity in labour. In the field of labour unionism Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja despite challenges stood his ground with the labour force. As one of the formost labour Chairman in Enugu state. His achievements laid the bedrock of labour unionism in Enugu state and beyond. He positively influence labour activity in the state by offering advice without compromise. He naturally fits into the political scene as Chairman of Igbo Eze North LGA. I salute the labour friendly Governor Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for believing in Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja.

" The contribution of workers to economic development since independence can be described as legendary which cannot be overlooked. So I appeal to Public, Government and all lovers of democracy to give more opportunities to outstanding labour leaders to occupy political positions to render selfless service to the people as being witnessed under the leadership of     Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja as Chairman Igbo Eze North LGA. I encourage Enugu state workers to give their best without compromise in supporting the administration of Gov.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for sustainable development and desired democratic dividends. Comrade Uwakwe has paid his dues and remains a reference point and role model for those of us in active service".

 The occassion featured the presentation of merit award to Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja and his wife Mrs Cecilia Ezeja by the labour union. 

While responding Chairman of the council Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja expressed his gratitude.

“ I thank our labour family for celebrating me. We should serve with interest of workers at heart. I served as labour chairman during the difficult period of military regime. I faced lots of tribulation. But I thank God for using me to build strong foundation in Government where commitment to worker’s welfare is made priority. I urge labour leaders to be relevant by being committed to worker’s welfare through education and enlightenment". 

Among dignitaries that attended the event includes Director Enugu state rural electrification agency Hon Engr Simon Atigwe , Special adviser to Enugu state Governor on Special duties Hon Onyekachi Eya,   NLC Chairman Abia state Comrade Obi Igwe, NLC Chairman Ebonyi state Comrade Ike Nwafor , South east President NULGE.    Prince Patrick Igwe and members,          Enugu state NAWOJ executives,        Tradional rulers, PDP Igbo Eze North, Community leaders, Civil servants, Women groups, Traders, Students, and other stakeholders in the area.
